The Melbourne Centre of PEN International is one of 145 centres worldwide whose members are united in a common concern for the art of writing and defending freedom of expression. PEN Melbourne advocates on behalf of silenced and persecuted writers and promote the role of literature in mutual understanding. PEN works for writers in prison, women writers, indigenous writers, and writers in the Asia and Pacific region.
