MILDURA WRITERS FESTIVAL RESIDENCY

2018 Writer in Residence Sian Prior 



Sian Prior is a writer, broadcaster, creative-writing teacher and musician. She has been a presenter on ABC Radio National, 774 ABC Melbourne and ABC Classic FM, and contributed a weekly column to The Age newspaper. She is an award-winning short story writer and her essays have been published in Meanjin, Fairfax publications, and Penguin's Women of Letters anthology. Her first book, Shy: A Memoir, was published by Text in 2014.

2017 Writer in Residence Carrie Tiffany



Carrie Tiffany has worked as a park ranger and an agricultural journalist. Her first novel, Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living, was the winner of the 2006 Western Australian Premier's Fiction Prize and the Dobbie Award. Her second novel, Mateship with Birds (2012) was the winner of the 2013 Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the inaugural Stella Prize

2016 Writer in Residence Nick Gadd

Nick Gadd is a writer based in Melbourne. His first novel Ghostlines (Scribe, 2007) won a Victorian Premier's Literary Award in 2007 and a Ned Kelly Award for best first fiction in 2009.His writing has appeared the GuardianElsewhere: A Journal of PlaceEureka Street and Melbourne.

2015 Writer in Residence Tracy Farr

Tracy’s debut novel The Life and Loves of Lena Gaunt, first published in Australia (Fremantle Press, 2013), was shortlisted in 2014 for the Barbara Jefferis Award and the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards, and longlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award. It was published in the UK and US (Aardvark Bureau) in 2016. Her second novel, The Hope Fault, was published (Australia/NZ) in March 2017, and will be published by Aardvark Bureau (UK) in 2018.

MILDURA WRITERS FESTIVAL RESIDENCY

The Mildura Writers Festival invites writers working in any genre to propose a project that will enhance the regional or national cultural landscape.
 
The residency is located in Mildura, Victoria. Sitting on the edge of the Australian desert along the Murray River, Mildura is less than two hours drive from Mungo National Park within the World Heritage listed Willandra Lakes Region. The Mallee, extending beyond the South Australian and New South Wales borders is a region which has provided artistic inspiration to numerous writers, visual artists, filmmakers and musicians.

The 2018 Mildura Writers Festival Residency will take place across June and July 2018. The successful applicant will spend one month in residence in Mildura pursuing their own project, interacting with the community and participating in the Mildura Writers Festival held from the19th to 22nd July 2018.
