Sergio de Pieri

Sergio de Pieri is an organist and composer born in Treviso in Northern Italy. He was Professor of Organ at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatorium in Venice for more than 20 years. He was organist of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne in the 1960s and later at the church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari in Venice.

In the 1970’s Sergio instigated the Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord. He also taught organ at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. He established the Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields Festival, which is now in its 11th successful year. He has
performed extensively in Europe, North America and Australia. As a regular visitor to the Murray River over many years Sergio has developed a deep and emotional attachment to the environment, which he believes can be celebrated and appreciated by others through the power of music.
