Spoken Word, Farhan Shah & Sufi Oz, MUD IMPROV

Triple threat event, spoken word, live music and a community minded event.

Kicking off our spoken word and performance night, come thruuuu to the Arts Mildura Hub with a spoken word session from Maaori (Ngaati Raukawa, Ngaati Ahuru, Tainui/Waikato) performer Kori [FKA Sean Miles], Luritja DJ and storyteller Jenna Rain Warwick, sound bath performance duo flautist Molly Jenkins and Lardil Yangkaal violinist Maya Hodge.

Farhan Shah & Sufi Oz

Led by Farhan Shah “The Pakistani Pavarotti”, Australia’s Sufi music super-group has created a mesmerising global sound that both celebrates and innovates the rich traditions and modern appeal of qawwali and Sufi music from South Asia and the Middle East.

Farhan has gathered around him a team of experienced musical souls that have this same affinity. Together they have created a new brand of global music. They come from Syria, France, Japan, Ireland, Fiji and call Australia home. Under the banner of ‘SufiOz’ they present a musical entry into the world of Sufi music and it’s powerful mystical message of peace, tolerance and the search for meaning.

MUD Improv

MUD Improvisation and Extended Domains is an Adelaide-based arts initiative that promotes the work of emerging and experimental performance-based artists across music, dance, sound art, and multimedia. MUD will be hosting artists from across the Sun-Tide program to collaborate through improvised techniques. Expect graphic scores (shapes making sounds), wild harmonic extravagance, rhythmic modulations and a good dose of crowd participation. MUD will also be hosting discussions with the artists and audience, exploring the specifics of creative, improvised, and experimental arts practice. Giving us all a chance to investigate what the bloody hell improvisation is anyway?!
