2012 Festival dates are 19 - 22 July. Program online in May 2012
The Mildura Writers’ Festival brings together some of Australia’s best writers in an intimate, winter program of workshops, lectures and discussion forums.
Beginning in 1994 in Stefano de Pieri’s cellar restaurant, this event has evolved to be acclaimed to be among the finest literary festivals in the country, not only because of its literary pleasures, but also because of the talent it attracts and its atmosphere of conviviality - building upon the provincial Victorian winter, with late night discussions around wood fires, showcasing the local and regional gourmet food and wine. With such a reputation the Mildura Writers’ Festival is able to attract the best Australian writers including Nobel Laureates such as JM Coetze, renowned authors such as David Malouf and Les Murray and international stars such as Clive James.
2011 Guests included:
Judith Brett, Peter Beilharz, Paul Carter, Stefano de Pieri, Morag Fraser, Professor Alan Frost, Anna Goldsworthy, Trevor Hogan, Gail Jones, Paul Kane, Jamie King-Holden, Geoffrey Lehmann, Shane Maloney, John Martin, Peter Rose, Elliot Perlman & Simon West

Welcome from the Festival Director
Our Festival has a reputation for being one of the most convivial writers’ events in the country and in no small way that is due to the passion and hard work of many people.
It is my great pleasure to be part of this Festival. My deepest thanks go to all those involved. From those behind the scenes, (the committee, staff, audiences and supporters) but most especially the writers themselves.
We acknowledge our highly valued partners and sponsors, most particularly Arts Victoria, the Australia Council for the Arts and our Education Partners La Trobe University. The 2010 program will be online in February 2010.

Welcome from the Artistic Director
A ‘festival’ is literally a ‘feast’ and so once again we invite you to partake of the rich and hearty offerings of the 16th annual Mildura Writers Festival.
Good writing, good talk and good food are the hallmarks of this event, which has gained over the years an international reputation for warmth and conviviality. It is even something of a writer’s writers festival, a place where authors look forward to spending time with other authors and with appreciative audiences.
All of this is made possible by the generous contributions of many patrons and organizations, but most especially through the local support of those individuals who appreciate what the Festival has to offer. To them, to you, we offer our appreciation and extend a welcome to the 2010 Mildura Writers Festival.
